Responsibilities

The Facility Services Technician is the primary caretaker of the facility and is responsible for the custodial, janitorial, preventative maintenance, and repair of all areas, furniture, fixtures, and equipment within the Recreation Center. 

 

Essential Functions

  • Responsible for upkeep, cleanliness, and disinfecting of the locker rooms, bathrooms, and showers
  • Restock all areas within the Recreation Center such as toilet paper, paper towels, and shower soap
  • Responsible for inventory and stocking all cleaning and maintenance supplies
  • Responsible for daily cleaning and organization of the Recreation Center
  • Daily maintenance of all carpet, wooden floors, terrazzo, and synthetic surfaces
  • Responsible for assisting in keeping the Recreation Center safe and risk-free
  • Responsible for assisting in the annual maintenance and cleaning shutdown of the Recreation Center
  • Responsible for the daily and weekly inspection of various activity areas 
  • Execute the preventative maintenance plan as scheduled for all facility, custodial, and fitness equipment
  • Repair damaged fitness equipment
  • Assist in the planning of all facility projects, including annual maintenance shutdown
  • Responsible for minor repairs throughout the Recreation Center 
  • Early morning and late-night shifts will be required 
  • Track and order inventory of all chemical and cleaning products
  • Complete and submit work orders to third-party vendors and the Jacksonville State University maintenance team

Qualifications

Education and Experience

  • High School Diploma with some college or vocational schooling a plus
  • General mechanical aptitude
  • Familiarity with safe operation of hand tools
  • Custodial or general maintenance experience

Skills and Abilities

  • Willingness and ability to take direction; professional appearance and positive attitude a must
  • High level of organizational, interpersonal, and customer service skills
  • Excellent attention to detail while striving to perform high quality workmanship
  • Some computer literacy and ability to communicate via email
  • Ability to prioritize tasks and manage time efficiently
  • Ability to work both independently as well as with a team including college students
  • Ability to interact and successfully manage within all levels of the organization

Work Environment and Physical Demands

Work Environment

  • Position will be based in Jacksonville, AL with less than 30 minute emergency response time to the facility expected
  • Combination of office environment, fitness center environment, and a variety of mechanical spaces
  • Exposed to dirt, odors, heights, cleaning chemicals, variable temperatures, and weather conditions
  • Moderate to loud noise
  • Evening or weekend work as required                  

Physical Demands

  • Standing or walking for at least 80% of the work day
  • Operation of various hand and power tools
  • Operation of equipment such as a scissors lift
  • Requires moderate physical effort to include frequent lifting of 50 pounds, occasional lifting of greater than 75 pounds
  • Bending, stooping
  • Must be able to traverse throughout the building and campus. Must be able to match speed of movement to game play. Regularly ascending/descending building levels and occasionally ladders or stools.
  • Must be able to lift, move and set up items weighing as much as 50 lbs.
  • Must be able to discuss, converse with, and exchange accurate information with arena patrons, staff, stakeholders, etc.
