The CENTERS team is innovative, entrepreneurial, trail-blazing, and ambitious for both CENTERS and our clients. Today, CENTERS provides management services for 14 clients.

Responsibilities

The Welcome Desk Assistant at the Hopkins Student Center is responsible for managing the Welcome Desk, handling a high volume of diverse requests, and serving as an information resource for all guests regarding the Hopkins Student Center, its events, programs, services, and the broader campus community.

 

This position will work on-site at Johns Hopkins University Homewood Campus. JHU is recognized as America’s first research university, a place that has revolutionized higher education in the U.S. and continues to bring knowledge and discoveries to the world. JHU is opening its first-ever student center in August 2025.  The 148,000 gross square feet Hopkins Student Center (HSC) will transform the student experience by providing spaces, amenities, and opportunities for students who want to socialize, connect, create, and relax.  The building is designed to be a welcoming environment for all Hopkins students while extending an invitation to the community through events, programs, and dining opportunities.​

 

Essential Functions

  • Greet and Welcome: Cheerfully greet members and guests to create and maintain a welcoming atmosphere that encourages long-term participation.
  • Monitor Access: Ensure guest access eligibility and monitor entry.
  • Customer Service: Respond to customer phone calls and in-person inquiries.
  • Policy Communication: Communicate and enforce all policies and procedures related to access, events, and drop-in use.
  • Information Resource: Be knowledgeable about programs and services at the Hopkins Student Center to answer questions, provide information, and offer solutions.
  • Assist Management: Support managers on shift with various tasks as requested
  • Reporting and Documentation: Complete reports, notify appropriate professionals of any issues, document all access control and system issues, and file all forms in the appropriate areas at the end of each shift.

Qualifications

Education and Experience 

  • High School Diploma
  • Previous work experience in a customer service related area preferred

Skills and Abilities

  • Ability and willingness to enforce policies
  • Strong customer service skills and basic knowledge of computer skills
  • Ability to handle several tasks at once with frequent interruption
  • Ability to answer questions about the Johns Hopkins campus and community

Work Environment and Physical Demands

Work Environment

  • Office environment/event center environment
  • Moderate to loud noise

Physical Demands

  • Must be able to traverse throughout the building and campus. Regularly ascending/descending building levels and occasionally ladders or stools
  • Must be able to lift, move and set up items weighing as much as 30 lbs.
  • Must be able to discuss, converse with, and exchange accurate information with clients, guests, staff, stakeholders, etc.
