The CENTERS team is innovative, entrepreneurial, trail-blazing, and ambitious for both CENTERS and our clients. Today, CENTERS provides management services for 14 clients.

 

The Competitive Sports and Camps Program Assistant is responsible for assisting in the day-to-day operations and management of intramural sports, club sports and Camps. This position will assist with the oversite of the intramural staff and camp staff members. They will work with the coordinator to schedule and manage the intramural sports leagues, club sport events and camp programs.  

Responsibilities

The Program Assistant of Fitness and Wellness is responsible for assisting in the day-to-day administration and staffing of the Personal Training, Group Fitness, and Wellness Programs.

 

This position will work on-site at our UAB location in the heart of this urban campus. University Recreation (URec) provides fitness, wellness, and recreational opportunities for the UAB community and beyond. 

 

Core Responsibilities:

  • Schedule staff for intramural games, club sport competitions, camp programs and other special events

  • Assist with the preparation of intramural operations

     

  • Assist with the lining of Intramural and Club Fields

     

  • Assist with lifeguarding during camps

     

  • Assist with the maintenance, organization, and cleanliness of our playing and storage areas

     

  • Input nightly scores and update intramural supervisor documents daily

     

  • Assist with staff oversight and management       

  • Assist with trainings for intramural staff and camp staff members

     

  • Manage intramural leagues and tournaments weekly through imleagues.com

  • Communicate effectively with Intramural and Club Sport participants

     

  • Monitor and update club sports documents for participation, statistics, and tracking purposes

     

  • Monitor and follow up with Competitive Sports email communications 

     

  • Attend all office, staff and department meetings as scheduled.

     

  • Assist with other duties as assigned in an effort toward the overall functions of University Recreation

Qualifications

Education and Experience:

  • Student seeking degree at UAB
  • Must be in good standings with the university 
  • At least 1 year (or 2 semesters) of experience in fitness, wellness, or recreation type setting
  • Current CPR/AED/First Aid for the Professional Rescuer (CPRO) Certification

  • Complete all other required training upon hiring

     

  • Safety Skills

     

  • Disability Support Services Certification

     

  • Emergency Evacuation Training Certification

Skills and Abilities:

  • Leadership and supervisory abilities

  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Applications 
  • Ability to communicate effectively with student and non-student staff
