The CENTERS team is innovative, entrepreneurial, trail-blazing, and ambitious for both CENTERS and our clients. Today, CENTERS provides management services for 14 clients.

Responsibilities

 

The Graduate Assistant of Facility Operations is responsible for assisting in day-to-day operations and management of the 123,000 square foot Marshall Recreation Center. This position assists in managing all aspects of informal recreation, facility rentals, custodial operations, student staff oversight as well as equipment and facility maintenance.

 

Core Responsibilities:

  • Assist with day-to-day operations, training and scheduling of area part-time student staff.
  • Assist in the management of the day-to-day operations of the Marshall Recreation Center.
  • Assist with scheduling external reservations and event set-up and tear down
  • Assist with ensuring successful completion of PM schedules as they relate to facility, fitness and custodial equipment.
  • Conduct daily facility inspections of all informal and programming areas and assist in maintaining cleanliness of the facility.
  • Assist with executing preventative maintenance plan for all fitness and facility equipment
  • Instruct three PEL (Physical Activity) courses per each 8-week sessions. 

Administrative Responsibilities:

  • Assist with bi-weekly payroll for part-time student staff.

  • Ensure high standards of facility maintenance and cleanliness.

  • Assist in forecasting and execution of the Annual Recreation Center Maintenance Shutdown.

  • Maintain updates to operations staff manuals and training procedures

  • Attend and serve as an active member of various department committees.

  • Assist with the annual budget to include preparation, forecasting and monitoring of expense and revenue as it relates to area of responsibility.

Qualifications

Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree in recreation, sport management or related field.
  • Acceptance into the College of Graduate Studies at Marshall University.
  • Leadership and supervisory abilities of undergraduate students and interns.
  • Ability to work independently and as a part of a professional team that collaborates effectively with colleagues.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office
  • Knowledge of Club Automation software preferred
  • Strong written and verbal skills

  • Office environment/fitness center environment
  • Moderate to loud noise
  • Evening/Weekend work responsibility as required
  • Valid CPR, AED and First Aid Certification prior to first day of work

Physical Demands

  • Sitting at desk or table for at least 50% of the work day
  • Standing or walking for at least 50% of the work day
  • Repetitive wrist, hand, or finger movement (while operating computer equipment)
  • Occasional bending, stooping
  • Eye-hand coordination (keyboard typing)
