    Mylan Park owns, programs, leases, and manages over 350 acres of mixed-use recreation, social, health, and wellness facilities for the Greater Morgantown community.  Through a public private partnership with WVU, Mylan Park is also home to a variety of both indoor and outdoor Intramural, Club Sports, and NCAA Big 12 Collegiate Athletic programs and the state’s only 50M aquatic facility.  This partnership provides priority use of over 50 acres of field space, and more than 140,000 sq. ft. of state-of-the-art indoor facilities, for programs including WVU Swimming & Diving, indoor soccer, softball, rugby, flag football, WVU Women’s Track & Field, cheer, boxing, outdoor soccer, lacrosse, roller derby, and more.

    Responsibilities

    Essential Responsibilities

    Under minimal supervision, ensures the lifeguard and instructors monitor the safety of the members and guests at the Aquatic Facility at Mylan Park by preventing and responding to emergencies. Provides indirect supervision of the lifeguard and program staff and acts as extension of the management. Provides excellent customer service.

     

    Duties and Responsibilities:

    • Performs all lifeguard responsibilities including monitoring pool activities, applying first aid, and performing water rescues as necessary.
    • Ensures that swimmers are well supervised in the pool and on decks. Lifeguards and assists other lifeguards as necessary.
    • Orients new lifeguards to job duties and responsibilities. Ensures that all lifeguards are current on their training and certifications.
    • Schedules, coordinates and conducts in-service training. Ensures that lifeguards are fully competent in first aid, CPR, and all water rescue techniques.
    • Assists with the scheduling of lifeguards to ensure that adequate coverage of pool areas are maintained during operating hours.
    • Ensures that lifeguards perform in accordance with established safety regulations and policies.
    • Keeps the management well informed of pool maintenance needs including cleaning, chemical adjustments, and repairs.
    • Inventories and recognizes when supplies or equipment need to be ordered and communicates the needs to the Aquatics Manager.
    • Interfaces with patrons regarding concerns, problems, or any other significant issues. Provides input and feedback while responding to problems.
    • Ensures that aquatic programs are occurring as desired and assists with the overall management of swimming events.
    • Performs related duties as required
    • Supervise the daily operation of the Aquatic facility.
    • Ensure the safety of patrons in the pool and spa areas.
    • Manage and coordinate lifeguards and instructors during shift.
    • Provides feedback to program director about programs service delivery.
    • Respond quickly to all emergency situations in the water or surrounding areas. 
    • Execute emergency procedures as needed. 
    • Care for any life threatening or not life-threatening conditions within the scope of the individual’s training.
    • Enforce facility and aquatic rules and policies.
    • Complete all records and reports as required.
    • Resolve conflicts.
    • Perform Lifeguard responsibilities as required.
    • Other duties as assigned.

    Qualifications

    Minimum Requirements:

    • Current Lifeguard Training certification is required.
    • First Aid, AED, and CPR-PR certifications are required.
    • Strong interpersonal and coaching skills; previous supervisory experience is preferred.
    • Strong customer service skills.
    • Ability to enforce policies and resolve conflicts.
    • Ability to handle several tasks at once with frequent interruptions.
    • Previous lifeguard experience required.
    • Water Safety Instructor or Lifeguard Instructor certifications preferred.
    • Must possess American Red Cross Lifeguard Training Certification.
    • Must possess American Red Cross Training certification in Community First Aid and CPR for the
    • Professional Rescuer.
    • Must be able to work 20 hours per week.

    • Ability to perform all Lifeguard skills as required by American Red Cross Lifeguard Training Program.
    • Strong interpersonal skills, and ability to lead and manage lifeguards.

    • Indirect supervision of lifeguards and instructors.

    Work Environment:

    • Job is primarily performed in a pool environment
    • Warm temperature and high humidity
    • Proximity to chemicals and hazards
    • Moderate to loud noise

    Physical Demands:

    • Swimming skills required to attain and retain lifeguarding certification
    • Vision that is 20/20 or correctable by lens or contacts
    • Ability to lift 40 lbs
