Centers is currently operating campus recreation centers at 10 institutions within the United States. Moraine Valley Community College is located in the southwest suburbs (Palos Hills) of Chicago Illinois.  In addition to providing fitness and recreational opportunities for students, faculty, and staff, the Health, Fitness, & Recreation Center houses intercollegiate athletics, physical education, and is open to more than 4,000 community members. 

     

    The Assistant Director of Marketing and Membership Services has full responsibility for the functional operations for the department as it relates to planning, coordinating, and administering the marketing efforts. In addition, this position will lead membership services for the department. Responsibilities include overseeing all departmental print, web, and social interaction initiatives; serving as the department liaison to Moraine Valley Community College’s department of Information Technology (IT), the Marketing and Creative Services department, and the Office of College/Community Relations; leading the operations of the Pro Shop; managing and mentoring the marketing & technology student staff; and marketing, recruiting, and advertising for special events. This position will supervise the Membership Representative to develop and implement member policies, set membership goals, track membership usage, as well as to ensure excellent customer service. Finally, this position will oversee the Coordinator for Membership and Guest Services who is responsible for the entry staff and campus outreach.

    Responsibilities

    Core Responsibilities:

    • Recruit, train, supervise and evaluate the part time staff including graphic designers, photographer, videographer, interns, web designers, pro-shop and member service attendants.
    • Train, supervise, and evaluate full time Membership Representative and Coordinator of Membership and Guest Services.
    • Coordinate a comprehensive new member marketing program to include: membership promotion periods, corporate recruitment, two week trial program, new member survey and follow up, referral program, and facility tours. 
    • Coordinate a comprehensive membership recruitment and retention program to include:  membership database management, membership appreciation days, membership renewals and cancellations, retention programs (birthdays, low usage, referral prizes, renewal gifts, etc.), corporate account management, and locker renewals
    • Responsible for all membership assessment data and surveys for the Department of Campus Recreation.

    Administrative: 

    • Create and monitor operating budgets for marketing and membership recruitment.
    • Manage membership and marketing payroll; maintain payroll records and reports.
    • Prepare financial and participation reports as needed.  
    • Act us back up to coordinator for daily cash handling operations to include intake of money and daily deposits.       
    • Become proficient in the use of Spectrum Software as a management tool of the Recreation Center specifically as it relates to membership and budget tracking.
    • Assist Director with development of quarterly and annual reports.

    Site Specific:

    • Coordinate promotional efforts for the department, with an emphasis on consistency of message and brand development.
    • Facilitate the production and dissemination of promotional collateral, including final-product proof.
    • Coordinate with programming staff to develop targeted promotions.
    • Utilize on-line and off-line marketing channels, including print, podcasts, web, reach, four-wind, direct advertising, and social networking.
    • Assist with strategic planning. Provide statistical data, reports and other information for monthly and annual reports.
    • Develop, implement and assess the annual Campus Recreation satisfaction survey.
    • Develop and monitor prospective member list to maximize opportunity.
    • Establish, analyze, and report annual membership goals.
    • Develop and monitor cancelled membership list to determine appropriate action.
    • Develop and implement a strategy for corporate sponsorship of Campus Recreation and the Recreation Center.
    • Create and maintain a unified identity for all facility signage, displays, and postings.
    • Work with colleagues to develop programs targeted toward generating memberships.
    • Present a unified, consistent branding of programs, facilities and services in all promotions.
    • Oversee media development, including the department website and multi-media presentations.
    • Identify appropriate communication mediums for each membership segment and coordinate regular, periodic communiques utilizing each medium identified.
    • Lead and support the coordinator with department involvement at campus orientations, information fairs, and other campus events.
    • Develop and maintain relationships with college departments that foster use of the Recreation Center for meetings, special events and recruitment of students, faculty and staff.
    • Participate in and support community efforts that are congruent with the departmental mission.
    • Seek avenues for increasing visibility for Campus Recreation within the campus (i.e., students, faculty, staff, alumni, and other associated entities).

    Other Responsibilities:

    • Evening/Weekend work responsibility as required.
    • Lead frequent meetings with internal staff.
    • Attend full staff mandatory meetings.
    • Work within a non-smoking environment.
    • Other duties as required.

    Qualifications

    Minimum Requirements:

    • Bachelor’s degree required; in marketing, communications, or related field. Master’s strongly preferred.
    • Two to three years practical work experience in the field of marketing or membership services.
    • Excellent written and oral communication skills.
    • Strong computer skills; familiarity with design programs helpful.  Familiarity with Spectrum membership software preferred.
    • Understanding of web design and use of MAC computers
