Since 1998, Centers remains the first and only mission centric organization committed to student development and departmental excellence on behalf of its clients. Centers is currently operating campus recreation centers at ten universities/colleges within the United States.


The Graduate Assistant of Programming is responsible for assisting in planning and implementing programs for University Recreation within current offering in Stephenson Recreation Center and outdoor facilities, as well as assisting in developing programs for the new Student Fitness and Wellness Center opening in 2019.


  • Assist the University Recreation full-time staff with all aspects of programming as qualified and assigned 
  • Assist in recruitment, training, oversight, human resources, and payroll of assigned programming part-time staff 
  • Assists with the preparation, forecasting and monitoring of income and expense budgets as it relates to assigned programs
  • Create, implement, and evaluate new programs and events as assigned 
  • Creates and develops administrative as well as program policies and procedures within the areas of responsibility 
  • Assist with promotional activities 
  • Assist with purchasing and maintaining equipment for programming areas
  • Oversee development and implementation of departmental special events for students and members
  • Serve as department liaison to university special events 
  • Assist with all-staff trainings
  • Attend biweekly meetings with supervisor and staff meetings as assigned

Other Responsibilities:

  • Evening/Weekend work responsibility as required
  • Hold regular office hours each week
  • Other duties as assigned


Minimum Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree in recreation, sports management, exercise science or closely related field
  • Accepted into JSU’s Master’s program
  • Demonstrated experience in developing and implementing policies and procedures
  • Fiscal integrity
  • Human resource management abilities
  • Leadership and supervisory abilities
  • Ability to work as part of a professional team that collaborates effectively with colleagues
  • Entrepreneurial spirit and enthusiasm
  • Analytical skills to: identify problems, assess alternatives, render consistent, logical decisions
  • Knowledge of standard practices in recreational sports and programming
  • Ability to thrive in an environment that values high expectations, accountability, and balanced lifestyles
  • CPR/AED/FA certified (or the ability to become certified)
  • Preferred Requirements
  • AED/CPR/FA Instructor certification (or willing to obtain)
  • 1-2 years of progressive experience in campus recreation management
  • Experience overseeing part-time employees within program areas



Technical Competencies

  • Knowledge of CSI/Spectrum software
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office
