Centers is currently operating campus recreation centers at ten universities/colleges within the United States.


The Graduate Assistant of Operations is responsible for assisting in day to day operations and management of the Stephenson Recreation Center. This position assists in managing all aspects of informal recreation, facility rentals, guest services, student staff oversight as well as equipment and facility maintenance.


  • Assist in the oversight and human resources of Facility Attendants
  • Conducting daily facility inspections of all informal and programming areas
  • Assisting with all facility rentals, set ups and tear downs
  • Assist with member and guest services responsibilities
  • Assist with the planning and opening of the new 100,000 sq. ft. Student Recreation Center
  • Carry out preventative maintenance plan for all fitness equipment
  • Purchase maintenance items, fitness equipment and other facility necessities as needed
  • Assisting in facility and office management
  • Attending office, staff and department meetings as scheduled
  • Coordinates monthly safety trainings with operations student staff
  • Maintaining updates to operations staff manuals
  • Serve as a member of the risk management committee
  • Assist in forecasting the annual maintenance shutdown
  • Daily inspection of various activity areas.  These inspections are focused on risk management issues as well cleanliness and organization
  • Assist in payroll for Operations staff

Other Responsibilities:

  • Evening/Weekend work responsibility as required
  • Work within a non-smoking environment
  • Other duties as required


Minimum Requirements:

  • Bachelor degree in recreation, sport management or related field
  • Accepted to JSU Master’s program
  • Demonstrated experience in developing and implementing policies and procedures
  • Fiscal integrity
  • Human resource management abilities
  • Leadership and supervisory abilities
  • Ability to work as part of a professional team that collaborates effectively with colleagues 
  • Entrepreneurial spirit and enthusiasm
  • Analytical skills to: identify problems, assess alternatives, render consistent, logical decisions
  • Knowledge of standard practices in recreational sports

Preferred Requirements:

  • AED/CPR Professional Rescuer Instructor Certified (or willing to obtain)
  • At least 1-2 years of progressive experience in recreation management or related experience.
  • Certified Pool Operator Certified (preferred)
  • Experience overseeing part-time staff within facility operations 



Technical Competencies

  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office suite
  • Knowledge of Spectrum CSI software  

Human Relations:
Internal contacts include staff at all levels. External contacts include external customers and vendors. Contact involves troubleshooting, informing, exchanging information, negotiating, making recommendations, and giving information or instructions.
