Mylan Park is a state-of-the-art recreational and educational complex located on over 300 acres of beautifully reclaimed surface-mined property just minutes from downtown Morgantown, West Virginia. The Mylan Park Foundation, Inc. advances the educational, recreational, social and economic benefits to North Central West Virginia citizens, with the purpose of improving the quality of life for residents of, and visitors to, the Greater Morgantown area.  Through a strategic partnership with WVU, Mylan Park is home to a variety of both indoor and outdoor Intramural, Club Sports, and NCAA Big 12 Collegiate Athletic programs.  This partnership provides priority use of over 50 acres of field space, and more than 125,000 sq. ft. of state of the art indoor facilities, for programs including WVU swimming & Diving, indoor soccer, softball, rugby, flag football, WVU Women’s Track & Field, cheer, boxing, outdoor soccer, lacrosse, roller derby, and more.

 

The Coordinator of Competitive Sports Recreation and Camps is responsible for the oversight and management of all park related sports, recreation and youth programming. This position will manage part-time staff including instructors, officials, attendants and supervisors.

Responsibilities

Core Responsibilities:

  • Responsible for recruiting, selecting and training of instructors, officials, attendants and supervisors
  • Coordinate and manage summer and school break day camp programming
  • Coordinate all sport and recreation related programs and rentals including leagues, classes, drop-in programs, clinics, and camps
  • Serve as liaison and represent Mylan Park with all area related rental, partner, and stakeholder groups  
  • Responsible for the management and inventory of all sports, recreation and camp supplies 
  • Responsible for all policies and procedures for designated areas of responsibility
  • Plan, schedule and assign staff to all sport, recreation and camps related facilities
  • Revise marketing publications and handbooks for all program areas
  • Evaluate performance and program effectiveness
  • Work with partner organizations to compliment and support joint community programming 
  • Demonstrate and teach conflict and risk management skills to entire competitive sports student staff

Administrative Responsibilities: 

  • Responsible for the operating, preparation, forecasting and monitoring of income and expense budgets as it relates to program area
  • Scheduling, recruiting, hiring, training, and evaluating of staff to support sport and camp related park 
  • Responsible for ensuring programs are in line with current industry trends
  • Manage budget, strategic planning, and assessment as it pertains to the program area
  • Prepare regular written communication such as monthly and annual reports, financial and participation reports and equipment inventory reports

Qualifications

Minimum Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree required; Master’s preferred
  • At least two years of programming experience preferred
  • Experience working in a community recreation environment, strong communication and presentation skills
  • Demonstrated experience within organizing sports, recreation and/or camp management
  • Knowledge of standard practices and demonstrated experience in recreational sports
  • Leadership and supervisory abilities
  • Ability to work as part of, and lead a team that collaborates effectively with colleagues 
  • Entrepreneurial spirit and enthusiasm
  • Analytical skills to: identify problems, assess alternatives, and render consistent, logical decisions
  • Ability to thrive in an environment that values high expectations, accountability, and balanced lifestyle choices
  • Previous officiating and competitive sport experience preferred
