Centers is currently operating campus recreation centers at eight universities within the United States.


The Health, Fitness & Recreation Center at Moraine Valley Community College is a state-of-the-art facility in Palos Hills, Illinois, currently under CENTERS management. This 113,000 square foot building, which opened in March 2014, supports the college’s athletic program, physical education & recreation therapy departments, and new campus recreation department.  The fitness center consists of a 15,000 square foot fitness floor including cardiovascular machines, strength equipment and free weight room; 4 group exercise studios, 1/10 mile indoor running track, the Cyclone Center, including 3-court field house with basketball, volleyball, and badminton; 4 lap lane aquatic center including a whirlpool, expansive locker rooms each with a steam room, family changing rooms, Tropical Smoothie Café, a Pro Shop, and open lobby spaces with seating.


  • Safely instruct an effective, creative group fitness class at the Recreation Center
  • Provide quality customer service to all participants in class, regardless of fitness level, appearance, or otherwise
  • Communicate effectively with supervisor through phone, email, or in person
  • Enforce all program policies and procedures as it pertains to the class
  • Enforce all building policies and procedures and assist as needed during emergencies
  • Attend all Group Fitness and all department staff meetings
  • Other duties as assigned


Minimum Requirements:


  • Current CPR/AED certification
  • Current certification for teaching desired class format(s); Examples include, but are not limited to: ACE Primary Group Fitness Instructor, AFAA Primary Group Exercise Instructor, AEA Aquatic Fitness Professional Certification, Zumba, PMA Pilates Certification, RYT Yoga, indoor cycling certification, and/or other national specialty certifications
  • Leadership and supervisory abilities

  • Knowledge of standard practices in recreational sports
  • Strong communication skills

Preferred Qualifications:

  • ACE Group Fitness and/or AFAA Group Exercise Certification PLUS additional specialty certifications
  • 1 year of prior fitness instruction experience
  • First aid certification
  • American Red Cross Basic Water Safety Certification, or comparable certification, for instructors teaching in aquatic environment


Technical Competencies:

  • Proficiency with audio/visual equipment
  • Proficiency with all standard group fitness class equipment; if teaching specialty class formats, instructor must demonstrate competency with required fitness equipment to conduct class

Human Relations:


Internal contacts include staff at all levels. External contacts include external customers and vendors. Contact involves troubleshooting, informing, exchanging information, negotiating, making recommendations, and giving information or instructions.
