    Position Description

    Under the direction of the Assistant Director of Marketing and Advertising, the Social Media Specialist will take a leading role in the development, creation and implementation of departmental social media marketing campaigns for all program areas and the facility/department itself. The Social Media Specialist will also assist with customer/visitor engagement activities, analysis of social media metrics, and campaign planning. In addition, the Social Media Specialist will also assist in marketing support and outreach activities as necessary, such as photography, video work, tabling, and special event support. Marketing, by nature, is a collaborative, creative and constructive environment. Therefore, the ideal candidate will have excellent communication and teamwork skills, a patient understanding and approach to his/her work, a knack for efficient and diverse multi-tasking, and a strong ability to work with constructive criticism.


    Core Responsibilities

    • Development and creation of multi-platform social media marketing campaigns for program areas, special events and the department
    • Coordination and implementation (including deployment) of social media marketing campaigns across multiple social media outlets, including, but not limited to, Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, YouTube, and Buffer
    • Continuous development and management of social media platforms to build the Rec Center’s social media and online presence via regular engagement activities and customer interactions
    • Analysis of social media metrics to develop more effective marketing efforts
    • Project management and facilitation
    • Assist in marketing support and outreach activities as necessary, such as photography, video work, tabling, and special event support 

    Administrative Responsibilities

    • Collaborate with other Marketing staff, as well as other department staff, effectively to increase efficiencies.
    • Continual work to build understanding of the CSU Rec Center brand and uphold the standards and guidelines of our brand, as outlines in our style guide.
    • Demonstrate and utilize strong and professional communication skills, including email and in-person correspondences 

    Site Specific Responsibilities

    • Take an active role in facility initiative(s) outside of the Marketing department (risk management, student development, etc.)
    • Evening/weekend work responsibilities as needed.
    • Other duties as assigned pertaining to the functions of the Marketing department.


    Minimum Requirements:

    • Experience and skill in marketing (with social media), writing, advertising, and/or other related experience
    • Experience with various social media platforms, including Facebook, Twitter, Instagram and YouTube
    • CPR/AED and First Aid certification (provided)
    • Open, effective and all-around exemplary communication skills
    • Ability and willingness to learn new skills and tools including, but not limited to, computer software, design and marketing concepts (basic to advanced), and other marketing-related job skills
    • Ability and willingness to be an effective Marketing team member through effective collaboration, teamwork and support
    • 10-15 hours/week
